Haloarenes undergo a number of reactions with metals. Two most common reactions are discussed below :

Wurtz-Fittig reaction

In Wurtz-Fittig reaction, ethernal solution of an alkyl halide in the presence of sodium, produce alkyl derivatives of benzene.

Fittig reaction

In Fittig reaction, two haloarenes react in the presence of sodium to produce biphenyls.
